HIV/AIDS Prevention & Awareness

End stigmas, encourage discussions, and reduce the spread of STIs.

What is HIV?

HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

  • HIV infects a specific type of white blood cell, called CD4 or T-cells. The virus enters a cell, makes copies of itself, kills the cell, and spreads, repeating the cycle among other CD4 cells.

  • Symptoms of HIV can include swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, chills, muscle aches, rash, fever, night sweats, and mouth ulcers.

How is HIV transmitted?

HIV can be transmitted through 6 body fluids - blood, semen, pre-ejaculate fluid, anal fluid, vaginal fluid, and breast milk; and 5 ports of entry - veins, anus, vagina, cuts & wounds, mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth, urethra)

In order to reduce stigma and address misconceptions, it is equally important to know how HIV is NOT transmitted: Insect bites, toilet seats, kissing, sharing cutlery, touching
