HIV/AIDS Prevention & Awareness
End stigmas, encourage discussions, and reduce the spread of STIs.
What is HIV?
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
HIV infects a specific type of white blood cell, called CD4 or T-cells. The virus enters a cell, makes copies of itself, kills the cell, and spreads, repeating the cycle among other CD4 cells.
Symptoms of HIV can include swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, chills, muscle aches, rash, fever, night sweats, and mouth ulcers.
How is HIV transmitted?
HIV can be transmitted through 6 body fluids - blood, semen, pre-ejaculate fluid, anal fluid, vaginal fluid, and breast milk; and 5 ports of entry - veins, anus, vagina, cuts & wounds, mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth, urethra)
In order to reduce stigma and address misconceptions, it is equally important to know how HIV is NOT transmitted: Insect bites, toilet seats, kissing, sharing cutlery, touching
